Started in the mortgage industry with World Savings in 1987 and then moved here in 1989.  Prior to entering the mortgage industry, I worked at Price Waterhouse as an auditor in the downtown Los Angeles office and earned my C.P.A. license in 1987.  This auditing background gives me a unique ability among mortgage brokers and loan officers to document and package a loan file as to assure the quickest and cleanest loan approval possible.  In addition, my tax experience enables me to quickly interpret even the most complex tax returns to determine the allowable income that can be used for qualifying.  1984 graduate of the University of Southern California with a B.S. in Business Administration/Accounting.
Business Philosophy
My primary goal is to obtain the best financing available for a client.  This is why I am a mortgage broker for nearly all of the lenders in Southern California rather than a loan officer for just one bank.  After interviewing clients to learn their specific needs, I research the market to find the best mortgage for their situation.  My secondary goal, especially for first time buyers, is to educate my borrowers on the home buying transaction.  I want my clients to know all of the steps in the loan application, approval, and closing processes.  Also, my clients are disclosed up-front in writing all of the necessary costs of their transaction, and more importantly, understand all of these costs.  Purchase or refinancing a property is one of the most important financial events in a person’s life and should be handled as such.  Borrowers are often expected to sign forms and pay costs that they do not understand.  I feel people deserve better.  They deserve honest and open communication, attention to detail, timeliness, and when necessary, true consulting and guidance.  My clients receive all of these and that is why my business is 100% referral based from real estate brokers, accountants, bankers, lawyers, financial advisors, and most importantly, existing clients.  "I look forward to working with you."

Ken Thayer
CEO / President of Residential First Mortgage

Ken Thayer is the President of Residential First Mortgage as well as an originating loan officer. Ken started his career in the mortgage industry in 1979 as a real estate broker, His duties included buying investment homes for various limited partnerships, and subsequently, listed and sold these homes for the company he worked for, Village Investments. In a 6 year period, he listed and sold over 1,000 homes throughout Orange and Los Angeles counties. He opened a mortgage company in 1986 and merged it with Stone American Financial in 1987, where he was Vice president and a loan officer for the company. In 1994, he co-founded Residential First Mortgage, where he oversees the mortgage lending operation, and originates loans. He also owns and manages a private money lending and servicing company, Ken Thayer Trust Deed Servicing, and is a active Note Pool and Foreclosure buyer and servicer. His emphasis has always been on top quality customer service for his mortgage and investor clients.

Michael McClare

Michael moved to Orange County in 1982 after growing up in Canada. He graduated from California State University Fullerton in 1986 with a degree in Finance and a Minor in Economics. Michael began his real estate career at Bank of America as a personal banker. He worked with high net worth executives and small business owners, assisting them with all their banking needs. He focused on real estate transactions as a great way to climb the sales ladder and far exceeded his sales goals. Dean Thayer

Dean Thayer was born and raised in Southern California.  After graduating with a Bachelors degree from University of California Santa Barbara, Dean began working for his brother, Ken Thayer and learning the mortgage business.  Dean quickly learned that he had an affinity for working with people and with helping to facilitate their mortgage needs.  Today more than twenty years later, many of those first clients are still his clients today.  Dean learned early on the importance of good communication with those who had mortgage needs and focused on building long lasting relationships making sure each client understands the process and has a satisfying experience.

Being an Orange County, California native, I completed my bachelor’s degree at California State University Fullerton.
